The Life Skills Initiative: How It Functions in the Ternopil Region
We’re sharing the second video in our series about the development of volunteering and opportunities for young people at the Ukrainian Red Cross. This series aims to show how our initiatives help young people discover themselves, gain practical skills, and unlock their potential.
“To grow, you need to step out of your comfort zone.” How our Life Skills initiative works in the Ternopil region
The Ukrainian Red Cross began implementing the Life Skills initiative back in 2019. It is primarily aimed at young people. During the sessions, participants can gain new experiences and discuss them in a trusted and supportive environment.
The initiative follows a clear structure and consists of several thematic blocks:
- skills for self-awareness and self-understanding;
- skills for living and cooperating with others;
- skills for an active life in society.
“You often see someone who comes to the session closed off, somewhat uncertain. But during the session, they open up, start voicing their thoughts, and lose their fear of expressing themselves,” explains Vasyl, a Ukrainian Red Cross volunteer and Life Skills facilitator in Chortkiv, Ternopil region.
Today, the Life Skills initiative is a reliable tool that enables us to listen to young people, respond to the challenges they face, and support them in overcoming these obstacles.
