The Ukrainian Red Cross is implementing a nationwide training programme for accountants: 237 people have already gained new qualifications
Accountants are specialists responsible for maintaining organisational records and overseeing the accounting, receipt, and transfer of funds. Today, as Ukraine marks Accountant’s Day, we celebrate the importance and continued relevance of this vital profession.
Professional training is a key aspect of the Ukrainian Red Cross’s work — including in the field of accounting — as part of the Reboot programme implemented by the Ukrainian Red Cross with the support of the Spanish Red Cross.
The programme aims to help internally displaced persons and other vulnerable individuals of working age with little or no income to acquire a new profession or improve their skills in order to find decent employment in their current place of residence.
Between 2024 and 2025, 237 people have been trained in accounting, and the programme is still ongoing. Of these, 58 qualified as accountants for individual entrepreneurs, while 179 gained skills in BAS Accounting. Since the start of the programme, 15 study groups have completed training across five regions, and this year, enrolment continues throughout Ukraine.
It is worth noting that the programme is currently being implemented in the Vinnytsia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kirovohrad, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, and Cherkasy regions of Ukraine, as well as in Kyiv. Residents of other regions can take part remotely via the online service.
The training includes employment counselling; vocational, digital skills, and language courses; psychosocial support; links with local employers for job placements, internships, or mentoring; as well as group and individual information sessions.
All trainers have professional experience in accounting. The training materials, provided by the Spanish Red Cross, have been adapted to align with Ukrainian legislation. The courses combine theory and practice, follow an individual approach for each participant, and include short-term support after completion.
The Danish Red Cross and the Swiss Red Cross are also key partners in the programme. The courses are delivered in collaboration with professional educational institutions and private companies. The programme integrates psychological support with practical employment tools. This comprehensive training boosts participants’ competitiveness in the labour market and strengthens their confidence in their professional abilities.
