The Ukrainian Red Cross Joins VIII All-Ukrainian Forum on Nursing Development

The VIII All-Ukrainian Forum on Nursing Development, organised by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, is taking place in Kyiv. The Ukrainian Red Cross has joined the event in support of a strategic initiative to improve professional standards in nursing.

“We are convinced that only through close cooperation between the state, the professional community, and the humanitarian sector can an effective model for the development of nursing in Ukraine be achieved. This will form the basis for improving the quality of patient care,“- said Maksym Dotsenko, Director General of the Ukrainian Red Cross.

This year’s forum, held under the motto “Professional Standard: Creating a Profession Together”, serves as a platform to introduce a new approach to promoting nursing development within the framework of cooperation between the Centre for Nursing Development at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Red Cross.

“Today, Ukrainian nursing is not just a component of the healthcare system — it is a united, professional force shaping the future of the country. For the first time, we are implementing national professional standards, building international partnerships, and, most importantly, speaking with one voice. This is our strength” — Kateryna Komar, Chief Nursing Officer and Director of the Centre for Nursing Development of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

The event was attended by over 250 representatives, including experts from the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Qualifications Agency, and the World Health Organization, as well as heads of healthcare and educational institutions, chief nurses from across Ukraine, and representatives of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

“Nursing, as an independent profession providing patient care and an integral part of delivering quality medical services, is still in the early stages of development in Ukraine. The social sector employs a significant number of healthcare professionals, whose activities must be better coordinated and improved in order to enhance service delivery. This applies not only to care issues but also to the acquisition of new knowledge and skills, which will help foster a culture of healthy living and ensure the provision of modern medical and social services to the people of Ukraine” – stated Serhii Ubohov, Head of the Department for Medical Personnel, Education and Science at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Over the course of two days, forum participants will discuss strategies for developing professional standards that align with European requirements. The agenda includes panel discussions, workshops, interactive presentations, and group work.

The Ukrainian Red Cross is not only a partner of the Ministry of Health and a co-organiser of the event, but also plays a key role in the development of six regulatory documents, which will serve as the foundation for introducing new standards for nurses and nursing assistants in healthcare institutions across the country.
