Mine Risk Awareness in Zaporizhzhia

Zaporizhzhia is a city located in close proximity to areas of active hostilities, and its residents are daily exposed to the risks associated with explosive ordnance. It is especially important to teach safety rules to children of internally displaced persons, as many of them will return to their homes in the future, in areas that may be contaminated with mines and unexploded ordnance.

That is why the MLT-Land educational space for children and Suziria School hosted mine risk awareness sessions, during which Ukrainian Red Cross specialists taught children how to recognise explosive devices, what to do if they are found, and which areas to avoid.

Basic safety rules that everyone should know:

  • Stop – do not approach a suspicious object.
  • Do not touch – do not try to move or examine the object.
  • Tell an adult – contact your parents, teachers, or other adults.
  • Call 101 or 102 – report the dangerous object to emergency services.

Teaching children the rules of safer behaviour is another step towards saving the lives and health of the younger generation.
