The Ukrainian Red Cross took part in joint exercises with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region
The Cherkasy regional branch of the Ukrainian Red Cross, including the emergency response team and emergency response specialists, recently conducted water rescue training in collaboration with the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in the Cherkasy region.
The primary goal of the exercise was to enhance the skills of volunteers and first responders in rescuing people from the water during winter, as the Dnipro River is covered with ice, which is not always thick enough for safe movement. Fishermen, children, and other citizens often venture onto the ice despite warnings, putting their lives at risk. This highlights the importance of having a well-developed response system to ensure swift and safe rescue of people.
The exercise consisted of the following stages:
- Working out the algorithm for interaction between volunteer teams and first responders.
- Using special equipment: the Bohun-2 all-terrain vehicle, hovercraft, and ATVs.
- Manoeuvring in difficult conditions: moving on ice and overcoming water obstacles.
- Practising real-life rescue scenarios.
We continue to improve our skills to help those in danger quickly and effectively.
